Name tags allow players to give names to their pets and other mobs in the game they don’t want to despawn. The player can choose a unique pet name, and the name tag will hover over their head when they wear it.
Nearly everyone in Minecraft has a name tag. It is possible to find them in treasure chests, while fishing, or by trading with villagers. Name tags cannot be crafted by players.
Minecraft requires the use of an anvil for the creation of name tags. Iron ingots and three iron blocks are used to make anvils. Those who don’t possess an anvil will not be able to add names to their tags.
There is no cost for using name tags, however, it will cost the player something to name the tag. Enchantment levels are required for players to place names on tags.
